Chaos erupts in Meru as MCAs walk out of Governor Kawira Mwangaza inaugural address. Citizens watched helplessly as supporters of Governor Kawira and MCAs hurled stones at each other.
Police were forced to lob teargas canisters to cool down the situation.
The assembly speaker Mr. Ayub Bundi accused the Governor of entering the assembly against house procedure. Further, he noted that the MCAs have been looking for the governor to agree on a working formula but in vain.
In response, Governor Kawira Mwangaza said as follows; “Meru MCAs want me to bribe them with ksh.5M so that they can approve my CECs. I have no money to give them. Some of them want me to employ their girlfriends in the county government, that is why they are intimidating me”.
Kawira Mwangaza was elected on an independent ticket defeating Kiraitu Murugi of the development empowerment party popularly known as the MBUS and the UDA CS nominee for Agriculture Mr. Linturi.
